Runaround Retro

Getting to #meetthemakers is one of the best bits of my job and today I'm so thrilled to be talking to Vanessa, the woman behind beautifully styled vintage indie brand, Runaround Retro.
So, Vanessa, tell us all about your brand - what do you do and why do you do it?
Runaround Retro is a vintage inspired accessories brand for baby and child. Each and every piece is ethically hand stitched on our Somerset farm to capture a nostalgic childhood of playing in fields, meadows and by babbling brooks.

The brand was born from my love of the whimsical clothing on the pages of fairy tales, children's vintage books, old nursery rhymes and flower illustrations of the 20's, 30s and 40s .

Drawing on inspiration from my own 1960s childhood wardrobe when everything was simpler, homespun and handmade ~  I have designed and made pieces for your child to wear that is nostalgic but timeless, comfy, wearable and washes well.  When I grew up it was absolutely normal for every child to play outside all day outside and only come back in when your tummy told you it was lunchtime!!

Runaround Retro is a collection of simple linen sun hats, essential brimmed unisex bonnets, and beautiful hair accessories hand stitched from pure natural fabrics and where possible vintage fabric too. All of which can be matched or mismatched into your child's existing wardrobe and worn out and about for every day adventures.

The Liberty fabrics and quality linens are purchased from our local independent haberdashery ~ who always endeavour to get us the exact bolts of beautiful fabric we are after. We pursue a zero waste policy in the studio and my seamstress (@tailsfromthecottage) and I are constantly dreaming up ways to repurpose every off cut of fabric. We carefully cut and stitch each and every piece for you, and then thoughtfully pack them in unbleached tissue and post in recycled cardboard boxes or recycled envelopes. You can then reuse the  packing to store treasures in or resend gifts to other friends and family.

We are a slow fashion company; we truly believe less is more and that when you invest in a handmade for your child each piece has a story behind it and a huge amount of love too.

Do display your hand stitched items in your children's bedroom as a decoration and when outgrown proudly pass them down to the next generation.

Thanks so much for the beautiful insight Ness. Pop over to see the full collection from Runaround Retro here.
